How to Choose a Subscription in Apps Amid Rising Dollar Rates in Russia
We understand that this advice may not be the most profitable for us as developers — shorter subscription periods bring us higher revenue. However, we value the trust of our users and want to help you minimize potential expenses in the current circumstances.
This article is primarily aimed at users with Russian App Store accounts. The recommendations are universal and can be applied not only to our apps but also to other subscription-based apps from any developers.
As of the time of writing, the official exchange rate of the dollar set by the Central Bank of Russia is 107 rubles. Prices in rubles in the App Store remain unchanged for now, but Apple regularly adjusts them every 1–2 months. Therefore, you shouldn’t count on the current prices staying the same for long. For example, a 1-month subscription currently costs around 499 rubles, but after a currency adjustment, the price may rise to 800–900 rubles. It’s worth noting that we don’t change the ruble prices ourselves — they are automatically calculated based on the exchange rate of our base currency, which in our case is the euro.
Have you considered this before?
What to do in this situation?
If you currently have a short-term subscription, we recommend switching to the longest available period. This will allow you to lock in the price at an acceptable level. Additionally, developers often provide discounts for longer subscription periods, making them an even more attractive option.
The same advice applies to paid apps. If you’ve been planning to purchase an app but have postponed it, it’s better to buy it now. After the exchange rate adjustment, its price may significantly increase.
